(democracynow.org) The U.S. Department of Justice has subpoenaed the internet company Twitter for personal information from several people linked to the online whistleblower website WikiLeaks. The subpoena asks Twitter for all records and correspondence relating to their accounts. Icelandic parliament member Birgitta Jónsdóttir, who has collaborated with WikiLeaks, is one of the five people targeted by the subpoenas. “I think it opens up a whole can of worms when it comes to parliamentary immunity worldwide,” Jónsdóttir says. “Icelandic authorities are taking this very seriously.” Watch video…
(anarchistnews.org) Seattle, WA – Yesterday morning we stormed in on and disrupted the keynote address at the Pacific West Biomass Conference and Tradeshow, an expensive gathering for the wealthy elite and the timber industry to figure out how to best exploit the planet. We blew whistles and shouted that despite all their lies and greenwashing, we will never compromise. We made a scene until they physically removed us.
The biomass industry has latched onto the fact that its fuel source at some point originated as woody plant matter, and uses this as “proof” that biomass is carbon-neutral, sustainable, good for the planet, and good for people. We know this is a lie. Forest biomass is a handout to the timber industry, and logging our forests to generate electricity and to heat buildings will never be sustainable. Biomass incinerators pollute the air and are usually sited in economically disadvantaged communities that don’t have the resources or power to fight them. Forests are clearcut to make way for crop biofuels, which drive up the price of food and displace subsistence farmers in the global South.
The Pacific West Biomass Conference and Tradeshow exists for people who profit off the destruction of the planet to network with each other. Peter Goldmark, Washington Commissioner of Public Lands and the keynote speaker, remarked that his “hope is that each of you succeeds because we must find new ways to power everything from your iPhones to your airliners,” and announced plans to convert Washington public forests to jet fuel. The Department of Natural Resources, the timber industry, and the biomass industry don’t care about climate justice, public health, or conservation. They are not interested in the fundamental alteration of our way of life (the destruction of capitalism and end to war) that must occur to stop climate change, they want new energy sources to power their fancy electronics and war machines. The only “green” they care about is money.
And you’re welcome, we’ll eat your free breakfast anytime.

I never understood the political program of the Marxist-Leninists. They seek to end monopoly capitalism by centralizing all productive tools into the hands of a few even throwing independent small farmers into wage slavery serving the political-economic elite (i.e. the State).
If the problem of capitalism to the Leninists is that it is not centralized or monopolized enough then they solve the problem of capitalism by monopolizing all the means of production within the world into the hands of what they call the “Worker State”. However, I believe the problem of capitalism is monopoly itself. Capitalism in my opinion is the artificial monopolization of productive tools into the hands of a few which induces wage slavery the defining feature of capitalism. By ending this monopolization, you end capitalism and the state. Redefine property rights to the Proudhonian standard of labor based ownership sustained by active use. This would end profit, rent, and interest.
Bolsheviks are simply Red Fascists. The Soviet Union was a state capitalist system fused with militaristic nationalism. Among other things, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan and occupied that country for a decade. The Marxist-Leninist state like all states for that matter is just a giant capitalist corporation, an absentee feudal landlord, and an enemy to socialism.
ext of poster:
Poverty has been growing in North Africa since the beginning of the year. The price of food staples is soaring, there is less and less work, further reducing the pitiful spectrum of everyone’s means of survival. They are bringing out the old trick of the “crisis”, making us believe that misery and revolt are new phenomena produced by it, while they are as old as money and authority. It only took a few sparks in Tunisia to set fire to the powderkeg of an already explosive situation, right to Algeria.
Cops attacked, government buildings, schools, customs, warehouses, police stations, car dealerships, banks and businesses targeted, coordinated roadblocks. Contrary to what power and journalistcops are saying, these riots are not limited to a few imaginary categories (“young”, “graduates”, “unemployed”, “extremist”) but are expressed widely, and their targets are clear.
Opposite, the state’s response is equally clear: in Tunisia, the cops respond to blocks by sniper fire, leaving dozens dead. In Algeria too, thousands of arrests, torture, detentions and killings, while the convictions have started and will continue. As always, as everywhere, the social war is raging, urging everyone to choose sides.
Already democratic or religious scavengers are rushing to recuperate these rebellions for political purposes, calling for reform or regime change, to divert this anger expressed in deed against any form of regime or government. They are already preparing the afterwards, wanting to replace the control of the dictatorship by democratic control, in other words, develop power to make it acceptable.
We who live in democracy, we can say that even if the daily living conditions are less harsh than under a dictatorship, democratic freedoms have never made us free. The freedom that we desire, that, is total and unconditional. Therefore this insurgent breeze, such as in Greece since December 2008 or in France in November 2005, warms our hearts.
That’s why we want to blow on the embers, and then spread the revolt.
Here, everywhere, now, all the time.
The revolution must come from the slums, because only bullets and blows come from above.

(networkedblogs.com) Providence, RI, January 13, 2011 — On Monday, WikiLeaks fulfilled its pledge to contribute toward the legal defense of accused whistleblower Bradley Manning by transferring $15,100 to the legal trust account of Manning’s attorney. WikiLeaks publicly solicited donations specifically for the expenses of Manning’s legal defense following his arrest in May 2010.
In light of WikiLeaks’ current fiscal challenges — due in large part to the shameful actions of Visa, MasterCard and PayPal in cutting off services to WikiLeaks at the behest of the US government — theBradley Manning Support Network commends WikiLeaks for their contribution at this time. “This donation from WikiLeaks is vital to our efforts to ensure Bradley receives a fair, open trial,” says founder and steering committee member Mike Gogulski.
The Support Network does not name donors as a matter of course. However, WikiLeaks’ pledge and anticipated contribution have been a matter of public record and ongoing interest.
This contribution by WikiLeaks brings the total funds raised and transferred to Bradley’s civilian legal defense team, led by attorney David Coombs, to over $100,000. The minimum amount necessary to mount a vigorous defense for Bradley Manning is estimated to be $115,000.
Having funded nearly the entire legal bill months prior to court-martial, the Support Network is now turning its efforts to broadening a public education campaign regarding the charges against Bradley as well as theinhumane conditions that he currently endures in confinement at the brig in Quantico, Virginia. The issues at hand include government transparency, online freedom of expression, the content of the leaked materials in question and the urgency of bringing an end to America’s wars of occupation.
The components of this campaign will include the public “Stand with Brad” declaration atwww.standwithbrad.org, nationwide events to coincide with Bradley’s pre-trial Article 32 hearing, expected in March, and another round of events in conjunction with the court-martial itself, anticipated for this summer.
“We have seen an enormous outpouring of support internationally, in donations as well as volunteers,” stated Jeff Paterson, steering committee member for the Bradley Manning Support Network. “Internationally, people are speaking out against the unjust imprisonment of Bradley Manning, who is for all intents accused of acting out of moral conviction. Our network applauds WikiLeaks for making this donation and urges others to protest any attempt by the government to use Manning as a scapegoat or to hold a secret trial.”

(newsinenglish.no) A young woman from the former Soviet Union, whose family sought and failed to win asylum in Norway when she was still a teenager, was in custody on Thursday and threatened with deportation. Maria Amelie won an award last year for her struggle as an illegal alien, and protests were brewing over her sudden detention.
Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported that Maria Amelie was taken into custody by eight police officers around 11pm Wednesday night, after she had given a speech at, ironically enough, the Nansen School in Lillehammer, named after one of Norway’s most famous humanitarians and asylum advocates Fridtjof Nansen.
