(thereader.es) The ‘Spanish Revolution’ kicked off today with greater ardour than ever before, given that in the city are now just 24 hours until the results of the local and regional elections are known.
Over 1,000 people formed a human chain in the region Valencia city hall this morning and again at 16.00hrs, and the Puerta del Sol square in Madrid was rammed to bursting.
Their protests centre on corruption and the disastrous state of Spain’s job market the worst in history with over five million on the dole, translating as 21 per cent of the population and almost half the under-30s.
In fact, for numerous, their dole money has expire and even middle-class families are being forced to eat in soup kitchens and the highest-qualified living on the street after their houses were repossessed.
Despite all this, no government in the land appears to be taking positive action to create steady jobs with real opportunities.
Protestors say Spain is likely to go down the same path as Greece, Portugal and Ireland, all of which have needed multi-billion EU bailouts.
(london.indymedia.org) … people kept shouting last night outside the Spanish embassy in Belgravia. Since Wednesday 18th large crowds of mainly spaniards living in London are following a call to demonstrate and to express anger about the “political, economic, and social outlook which we see around us: corruption among politicians, businessmen, bankers, leaving us helpless, without voice.”
On Friday 20th around 300 people showed up at Chesham Place for a ‘pots & pans’ protest, coinciding with hundreds of ‘cacerolazo’ protests called thorughout Spain as part of the ‘Spanish Revolution’ currently taking place all over the country. After the protest, a public assembly took place where, amongst other things, people debated the practicalities of setting up camp till Sunday 22nd. As a result, around 50 people spent the night outside the embassy, and there are plans for further demonstrations today Saturday and Tomorrow Sunday (See Democracy London blog)

(sodahead.com) The Anonymous group known for hacking and taking down numerous websites including Paypal and Bank of America for blocking donation payments to the Wikileak owner Assange, the church of Scientology and their recent attack on the Westborro “God Hates Fags” church has now focused its attention on the Tea Party by posting this message to the Tea Party Patriots message board.
Attention Tea Party
We, the collective super-consciousness known as ANONYMOUS – the Voice of Free Speech & the Advocate of the People – have long heard you issue your venomous statements of hatred, and we have witnessed your flagrant and absurd displays of inimitable bigotry,, racism and intolerant fanaticism. We have always regarded you and your ilk as an assembly of graceless sociopaths and maniacal chauvinists & religious zealots, however benign, who act out for the sake of attention & in the name of a political movement.
Being such aggressive proponents for the Freedom of Speech & Freedom of Information as we are, we have hitherto allowed you to continue preaching your benighted gospel of hatred and your theatrical exhibitions of, not only your fascist views, but your utter lack of Christ-like attributes.
Your demonstrations and your unrelenting cascade of disparaging slurs, unfounded judgments, and prejudicial innuendos, which apparently apply to every individual numbered amongst the race of Man – except for yourselves – has frequently crossed the line which separates Freedom of Speech from deliberately utilizing the same tactics and methods of intimidation and mental & emotional abuse that have been previously exploited and employed by tyrants and dictators, fascists and terrorist organizations throughout history.
ANONYMOUS cannot abide this behavior any longer. The time for us to be idle spectators in your inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex, and we shall now be moved to action. Thus, we give you a warning: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes & close your public Web sites. Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your activists will ever be able to fully recover. It is in your best interest to comply now, while the option to do so is still being offered, because we will not relent until you cease the conduction & promotion of all your bigoted operations & doctrines.
The warning has been given. What happens from here shall be determined by you.
Anonymous hackers have in the past completely shut down websites, copied member lists and re-posted names, addresses, phone numbers, billing and other personal information and released sensitive emails of their targets.
If they do hack the Tea Party Express and Tea Party Patriots websites I can just imagine what kind of damage they can do.
NOTE: this information was available on the Tea Party Patriot message board but has since been removed
ADDED: After doing some more research I found this article that says Anonymous has punished the Tea Party last year:
The Oregon Tea Party suffered the wrath
of Anonymous after it was discovered using the group’s famous “We Are
Legion” slogan in official materials and merchandise.
Chances are that if you’re reading this, you have at least a passing familiarity with Anonymous. For those who don’t, it’s a sort of internet meme/subculture type of
thing, strongly associated with 4chan, that commits acts both online and in the real world, sometimes good, sometimes bad and always “for the lulz.” I don’t really get it myself, to be quite honest, but I do know enough to stay out of its way.
The same can’t be said for the Oregon Tea Party, however. For reasons unknown, although probably because it sounds cool and ominous, the conservative political protest group began using the slogan, “We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.” According to the Daily Kos,
the slogan first appeared on a sign at at Tea Party rally and before long it turned up on official Oregon Tea Party bumper stickers.
Yesterday, thanks to a Reddit user whose parents belong to the group, the Tea Party’s use of the slogan was revealed to the world at large. From that point it was only a matter of time until 4Chan itself found out and soon, as the saying goes, the internet was there.
The Oregon Tea Party Facebook page was quickly subjected to an onslaught of image macros, desus, flames and herp derps, along with at least one message explaining why it was being smacked around. Within a couple of hours, the Tea Party had run up the white flag with a message reading, “Anonymous: We appreciate your resources and admire your tactics. You have taught us more than you know. As requested, we are no longer using the ‘anonymous’ quote.”
The Oregon Tea Party’s Facebook page is now gone completely and its Ning page,
where the use of the quote was confirmed as legitimate, has been limited to members-only access. The campaign was clearly a win and entertaining as always, but does anyone else find it disturbing that the Tea Party, which bills itself as a legitimate voice of conservative political dissent in the United States, “admires” the tactics of Anonymous?
(chronicle.su) Two days before elections in Bremen, the Pirate Party’s internet servers were seized by police for criminal investigation. This application of police force is justified by allegations that Anonymous used a free co-authoring service, PiratenPad, which is located on the Pirate Party’s servers. Anonymous occasionally uses this service to coauthor treatises, press releases, and other documents. 4chan, the central command of Anonymous, remains outside of German jurisdiction.
Clearly, Anonymous has become a worldwide terrorist threat in the eyes of European and American government. To associate legitimate movements for internet freedom with Anonymous is a predictable tactic. However, the disturbing seizure of the Pirate Party’s web servers reveals a fatal error in German democracy. The sixth largest political party in Germany is the victim of a completely illegal political attack that it may never recover from.
The use of force to silence legitimate political movements is itself an act of terrorism aimed at the base of democracy. One wonders if the electorate might become infected with sockpuppets voting under realistic identities, as the internet has. If it is permitted for businesses and government to weaponize social media in order to shift public opinion, why not cut to the chase and use the same technology to rig the vote?
Voting for the Pirate Party will give authorities the right to seize your computers and raid your home for Guy Fawkes masks. If a single mask is found, you and your family will be imprisoned without trial, indefinitely. One day you’ll wake up in Guantanamo bay, where your favorite books will be defiled by grinning American soldiers as you lie naked on a concrete floor.
